There are thousands of split-entry homes in the Twin Cities and most of them come with a cramped kitchen and with a small island, if any at all. And many, like this one, built in 1965, show decades of normal wear and tear. \u201cIt was a bit tired, but it was really about getting it to work better for these homeowners,\u201d recalls Design Build Consultant David Long. \u201cThey wanted a better workflow and more storage along with a fresh new look and that’s what they got.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, we removed a dividing wall in the middle of the kitchen, gutted everything, replaced carpet with hardwood flooring, designed a new multi-tiered island with a built-in convection microwave oven. Aged popcorn ceilings were replaced with new knockdown treatment and the additional lighting throughout the kitchen really enhanced the brightness and openness of the space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
