Having already remodeled several other rooms in the home, these homeowners now turned their attention to the \u201clittlest\u201d room in the house, which required a significant master bath remodel. You might say by square footage it wasn\u2019t that small, but in terms of how it was used, the organization and layout had a lot of wasted space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first thing we do in phase one of any bathroom remodeling design is try and discover what the problems are in the space in question. We ask things like where is the clutter? What isn\u2019t being used? What isn\u2019t big enough? And what makes you stressed out?  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAsking key questions helps you and your designer understand the goals of any remodel and stay focused on drafting the scope of the project,\u201d explains David Long, a senior Design\/Build Consultant at Strandpark Properties. Design | Build | Remodel. \u201cThe order of design is very important in successful remodels.\u00a0 Most homeowners like to jump ahead to the pretty things like bathroom vanity surfaces in this case, which is understandable. However, without determining the scope of the remodel first, it isn\u2019t really helpful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In our initial (free) meeting about their bathroom and walk-in closet, we discovered the whirlpool tub was hardly ever used but was taking up a lot of space. The shower was also too small. And the walk-in closet they had was stacked floor to ceiling. It was stressful to simply walk into the space!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was not a comfortable and calming place to be. Now the clients love their home, mostly because it is at peace with their current lifestyle and relieves stress rather than causing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FLOORING DESIGN TIP: Typical of many homes, this residence had multiple types of flooring that made the adjacent rooms feel smaller and disconnected.  So, we replaced the carpeting in the dining and bedrooms to match the oak flooring already in the kitchen. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
